Social media favours WhatsApp over Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok

DESPITE having several features that set it apart from other social media sites, WhatsApp has emerged as the favourite platform among social media users ahead of Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

According to data presented by SportsLens.com, WhatsApp – which boasts more than two billion monthly active users globally – is ranked third in terms of app downloads in 2022.

And while Facebook and YouTube may be the most popular platforms in terms of monthly active users, WhatsApp is the most popular network among social media users overall.

According to the Digital 2023 Global Overview Report, WhatsApp was ranked as the top social media platform by roughly 16% of users between the ages of 16 and 64.

With a 14.3% share among respondents, Instagram came in second place, only 0.1% ahead of Facebook, the most popular social networking platform in the globe.

According to statistics, WeChat came in fourth place with a 12.1% share, which is nearly twice as much as TikTok.

In the middle of the list, with 3.4% and 2.6% of the market, respectively, were Facebook Messenger and Twitter.

Only 0.9% of respondents indicated that LinkedIn was their preferred social media network, further demonstrating LinkedIn’s low popularity among users of social media.

Despite being the preferred social media network for many users, WhatsApp’s average daily usage time has plummeted in 2022.

In accordance to the Digital 2023 Global Overview Report, Android users used WhatsApp for an average of 17 hours and 20 minutes per month last year, which is 6.7% less than in 2021. In fact, aside from Line, WhatsApp was the only app whose monthly usage time fell.

With an average of 23 hours and 28 minutes of usage per month almost 20% more than a year earlier, Tiktok remained the absolute king in this category.

Facebook came next, raking up 19 hours and 43 minutes, which is also impressive. With an average of 12 hours per month, Instagram came behind WhatsApp.

However, statistics indicate that Telegram experienced the greatest growth year over year. 33% more Android users used the app in a month last year than in 2021, spending almost four hours. – March 1, 2023
