CONSTRUCTION on the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link has achieved 32.42% completion, according to Works, Transportation, and Infrastructure committee chairman Mohamad Fazli Mohamad Salleh.
He asserted that the Johor government is dedicated to making sure the high-impact public transportation project is operational by 2026.
“We expect the project infrastructure to be completed in December 2024 and the link to be operational by December 2026. So far, we are running on schedule,” Fazli told reporters after visiting the RTS Link site at Marine Viaduct yesterday (April 4).

He added that the project’s development is being monitored by the Transport Ministry.
Fazli pointed out that the RTS Link, spanning 4km between the Woodlands North station in Singapore and the Bukit Chagar station will be able to serve up to 10,000 passengers per hour in each direction.
In October 2020, a task group was formed to discuss state government concerns such as land issues, with PLANMalaysia Johor serving as its secretariat.
On a request to launch a Light Rail Transit (LRT) service in Johor Bahru, Fazli stated the state government is receptive to ideas, but the issue necessitates a more thorough investigation because Johor already has other public transportation options.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook was reported to have said a private company had proposed to build an LRT network in the city on March 28.
Moreover, Fazli noted that the state government will hold a coordination meeting with the immigration department to plan for the smooth movement of vehicles at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex at the Sultan Iskandar Building here and the Sultan Abu Bakar Complex in Iskandar Puteri ahead of the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration. — April 5, 2023
