SHAH Alam DAP chairman Shakir Ameer has lambasted PAS for demanding that Coldplay’s concert, scheduled to be held in November, be cancelled on grounds that it promotes hedonism and deviant cultures.
Accusing the Islamic party of seeking cheap publicity, Shakir said PAS does not care about positive values and that they protest over anything for the sake of protest for political reasons to undermine the unity government and to mislead voters in the forthcoming state polls.
Recall that yesterday (May 10) PAS central committee member Nasrudin Hassan has taken to Facebook to air his grievances about the Coldplay concert that is scheduled to be held in Malaysia in November this year.
Nasrudin also said that the concert brought no benefit to “race, religion or country”.
“Based on PAS’ logic, it means the internet, television, radio and any other social media which they heavily depend on to spread their propaganda should be banned as well for promoting certain values that they do not agree with,” Shakir remarked sarcastically.
He said there is also a need to acknowledge that during music events by major international artistes such as Coldplay, local traders are able to make an honest living around the vicinity of the event venue.
“Also, since Kuala Lumpur is one of the venues within Southeast Asia apart from Jakarta, we can expect influx of tourists from Singapore, Thailand and other parts of Southeast Asia. This is a huge economic opportunity that Malaysia can take advantage of,” he remarked.
The DAP leader went on to defend the British rock band’s tour, claiming that they were out to promote sustainability, recycling, and a reduction in CO2 emissions, all of which are good values that Islam also acknowledge.
“A person won’t lose their faith by attending a concert. Don’t insult the intelligence of Malaysians. There is no need for PAS to intervene in the thought process of Malaysians,” he said on his Facebook post yesterday (May 10).
Shakir went on to remind Malaysian to reject hypocritical behaviours by PAS and Perikatan Nasional (PN) who intend to polarise the nation.
“We cannot allow them to make political gains in the long run as harmony and understanding among Malaysians will be ruined if they were to make inroads during the coming state elections,” he asserted.
“We must come together in full force to reject PAS and PN.” – May 11, 2023
