PAS remains loyal to PN, rejects DAP’s ‘proposal’

A “PROPOSAL” from DAP to collaborate in the administration will not sway PAS from its commitment to Perikatan Nasional (PN).

“PAS would never go against the promise made to its supporters by leaving the Opposition coalition after the 15th General Election (GE15),” Utusan Malaysia reported the Islamist party’s deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man as saying.

“(We) have no personal issues (with DAP) but we will stick to our promise made to the rakyat during election campaigning, and we will not lie to the voters (by leaving PN).”

Commenting on the proposal made by DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang that the coalition government should cooperate with PAS ahead of the upcoming state elections, Tuan Ibrahim said that PAS and PN in general, will continue playing the role of constructive Opposition in Parliament.

However, he urged PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang to end attacks against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and first demonstrate honesty.

Moreover, the PM’s recent meeting with PAS central leadership committee member Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, also sparked speculation.

The Tambun MP reportedly expressed his desire to rekindle ties with Hadi during the meeting.

Furthermore, Anwar had stated his intention to address Kelantan’s long-standing water issue, but he added that doing so would require the state government’s complete support.

Tuan Ibrahim also discussed the government’s decision to drop its appeal against a historic decision that allowed Jill Ireland, a non-Muslim Sarawakian, to use the word “Allah”.

He urged Putrajaya to walk the talk on the reforms it always preaches and to uphold the status of Islam as the official religion.

“We insist the government should proceed with the appeal as the federal government’s stance on the matter must be in line with that of the National Fatwa Council.” — May 17, 2023
