“UMNO blueprint not to rival Malay Proclamation,” says Ahmad Maslan

THE idea for UMNO to create a blueprint advocating the Malay agenda in order to rebuild the party’s confidence is not meant to compete with the Malay Proclamation movement initiated by former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“The Malay agenda versus the Malay Proclamation. Not the case. UMNO has always championed the Malay cause and Islam,” UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan told reporters on the sidelines of the 2023 UMNO general assembly at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTCKL) today.

“This (the blueprint) is nothing new; it’s an ongoing effort. This will go on for time to come.”

The Deputy Finance Minister was commenting on the recent call by UMNO deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan on the need for a “modern and advanced” Malay agenda blueprint to regain the community’s support.

On Tuesday (June 6), Dr Mahathir and a group of opposition leaders who backed the Malay Proclamation gathered for a roundtable discussion.

PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, Bersatu information chief Razali Idris, Muafakat Nasional chairperson Annuar Musa, Pejuang chairperson Mukhriz Mahathir, Putra president Ibrahim Ali, Arau MP Shahidan Kassim, former Tanjong Karang MP Noh Omar, and former Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin were among those present.
