VETERAN lawmaker Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang has issued a challenge to PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang and Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to state what they want Malaysia to be world champions of.
This is after Hadi had made numerous false allegations against DAP and himself, and had called Lim a communist, in addition to being “anti-Malay, anti-Islam and anti-Malay rulers” and promoting Islamophobia.
“When I challenged them to substantiate these allegations, they either lapsed into silence or avoided the challenge completely,” Lim said in a statement today (June 22).
“PN leaders from PAS and Bersatu do not have any plans to make Malaysia world champions. If anything, they only want Malaysia to be world champions of lies, falsehood, fake news and hate speech.”
Last year, the Marang MP had, on several occasions, accused DAP of being a “pro-communist” party and despite the backlash and police reports lodged against him, had refused to withdraw his controversial statements as he said he had evidence to back up his claims.
Hadi also said in a HarakahDaily article on April 21 that the communists who had no place to hide in the jungles after their party was outlawed had joined DAP as a “cover”.
Naming Lim, Hadi said DAP had not changed its stand of a Malaysian Malaysia as the party openly defended secularism although Islam is the official religion of the country.
Upcoming state polls more important than GE15
Meanwhile, Lim also questioned if the six state polls expected to be held in August this year is the beginning of Malaysia becoming world champions again or if the country will continue to remain in the trajectory of a “divided, failed and rogue state” in the coming decades.
“The six state elections in August is even more important than the 15th general election (GE15) in November last year,” he remarked.
“GE15 gave birth to the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim-led unity government, which can be regarded as a tentative effort to reset and return to the original nation-building principles of a plural Malaysia written into the Federal Constitution and the Rukun Negara.
“Will the tentative efforts of the Anwar unity government to reset and return to the original nation-building principles of the plural Malaysia continue, or will the country remain in the trajectory of a divided, failed and rogue state in the coming decades?
“Malaysia will not become a divided state overnight but the state polls will decide whether we are heading in this direction or not.” – June 22, 2023
