S’gor govt leaders’ official cars to be returned before nomination day, says Amirudin

ALL Selangor state government officials will return their official vehicles a few days before nomination day for the forthcoming state polls, said caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

According to Amirudin who is also the Gombak MP, the administration is only going to stop using official cars before nomination day because the caretaker administration must attend or chair several sub-committee meetings before then.

“So, a day or two before the nomination announcement is made, the cars would be returned,” the outgoing Sungai Tua assemblyman said after meeting civil servants and community leaders at the monthly meeting today (June 23).

He further stated that state executive council members had been ordered not to use official vehicles for political events or campaigning.

For the record, the Selangor government has 11 Toyota Camry 2.5-litre cars for official use.

Additionally, Amirudin added that during his five years as Selangor Menteri Besar, he came across major challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic, floods in December 2021, and water contamination issues.

“We might not have resolved all matters 100% but, but we had put in measures to handle them. Being meticulous and consistent in carrying out our decisions has helped us to deliver solutions to the people and maintain our progress for the state,” he remarked.

The Selangor legislative assembly was dissolved officially today (June 23), paving the way for the state elections to be held.

Kelantan was the first to dissolve their state government, followed by Selangor today (June 23), Kedah and Penang on June 28, and Negri Sembilan on June 30.

At the time of writing, Terengganu was the only state that had not decided on a date for the dissolution of the state assembly.

On Wednesday (June 21) Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun also said that all state executive committee members will return their official vehicles before the start of the campaign period for the upcoming state polls.

Although they are technically entitled to use official vehicles during that time due to their caretaker government status, he says they have chosen against it.

“We will only use the cars if there is official business. Otherwise, we will not be using the vehicles or any other government facilities for campaign purposes, although there is no law against this,” the Port Dickson MP said. – June 23, 2023
