THE Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDN) is currently exploring the possibility of introducing a dedicated identification (ID) system for the purchase of subsidised RON 95 petrol and diesel.
This initiative aligns with the upcoming launch of the Main Database (PADU), which will facilitate the targeted implementation of subsidies starting next year, with completion expected by year-end.“The use of ID for the purchase of subsidised fuel will assist KPDN in controlling purchases and curbing the smuggling of subsidised petrol and diesel,” KPDN Deputy Minister Fuziah Saleh told reporters at Tanjung Mas, Kelantan.PADU makes it easier for the launch of the targeted petrol subsidies. Previously, each ministry had its own separate database.For targeted petrol subsidies, Fuziah emphasised that it requires data from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and the Road Transport Department (JPJ).“By consolidating the data from these two agencies, we can accurately identify those who are truly eligible for the respective subsidies,” Berita Harian quoted her as saying.
