IN light of recent statements made by PAS chairman Tan Sri Hadi Awang, questions have emerged regarding the accuracy of his assertion of having obtained support from the unity government parliamentarians in Sabah and Sarawak who purportedly back Perikatan Nasional (PN) to replace the current federal administration post the six state elections.
Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng stated that the veracity of these claims demands concrete evidence for validation.
“If not, this would mean Hadi is once again deceiving the people,” asserted Lim in a media statement.
The DAP lawmaker claimed that several months ago, the PAS leader also issued false statements to the public and PAS members by claiming that non-Muslim and non-Bumiputera groups were the cause of corruption in Malaysia.

“At that time, I challenged Hadi to file a police report and a report with both the police and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) regarding his claims, yet no such reports were lodged,” added Lim.
Moreover, PAS has gained a reputation for engaging in misleading rhetoric by consistently criticising the DAP as an anti-Islam and anti-Malay party without a solid foundation or evidence, according to Lim.
Likewise, the Islamist party has also been known for stoking flames of anger and animosity through divisive religious and ethnic issues.
Beyond these accusations and insinuations, PAS leaders have yet to present any forward-looking economic strategies to the electorate during the current state polls.
As the political landscape unfolds, Hadi’s claims cast a spotlight on the responsibility of leaders to uphold transparency and accountability in their public statements. The call for evidence stands as a testament to the need for honesty and integrity in political discourse. – Aug 10, 2023
