WITH barely 24 hours to go before polling starts for the six state elections, one wonders if UMNO grassroots members or even fence-sitters among the Malay/Muslim electorate will in any way be enticed by Perikatan Nasional’s (PN) six reasons why they should support the opposition coalition instead.
Below are the six reasons penned by the National PAS Information Department director-general Zurk Ahmad as appeared on the party’s mouthpiece HarkahDaily:
1) UMNO has deviated from the original struggle
UMNO has given up its original struggle to defend the fate and interests of the Malays. Now all that remains is the struggle to save leaders who are mired in criminal cases.
There are no more genuine struggle/sacrifices that have been UMNO’s strength all this time.
2) The betrayal by party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi
Zahid’s action of collaborating with DAP and instructing UMNO MPs to support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister is clearly a betrayal of UMNO members and voters.
Zahid is willing to do anything to maintain power including betraying the nation and deceiving the people.
3) UMNO violated the party constitution and its general assembly rulings
UMNO is now no longer functioning as a constitutional party and organisation. All decisions and actions are made solely according to the president’s instructions.
The stance of “No Anwar, No DAP” by the UMNO General Assembly has been forgotten. Contest for the post of party president and deputy president as stipulated in the UMNO Constitution has also been violated.
4) UMNO has conspired with DAP-Pakatan Harapan (PH)
DAP has never abandoned its Malaysian Malaysia agenda. DAP has never given up on its Setapak Declaration. In DAP’s eyes, UMNO is still a corrupt party.
Where is the dignity of UMNO which was once perceived as a sacred party to the Malays when they now shamelessly instructed members to vote for DAP?
5) UMNO no longer earns the people’s mandate; it has lost its strength
UMNO-Barisan Nasional (BN) once won 198 seats in the 11th General Election (GE11). But it only managed 30 seats in last November’s GE15.
UMNO is now at its weakest level. The existing cancer is difficult to treat. More unfortunate for UMNO is when some UMNO members attempted to improve the party but only to find themselves being expelled without proper reasoning.
Believe me, it is difficult to restore UMNO from within.
6) PN is cleaner and more stable
PN is today the new choice for people who want unification. PN’s struggle which is focused on defending the welfare of Bumiputera and non-Malays along the principle of mutual justice has been proven.
“It will be difficult for us to stop corruption within the kakistocracy government if we are divided. It’s now the time for UMNO members who felt betrayed to vote for PN-PAS in this state polls,” added Zurk. – Aug 11, 2023
