TWO VFX (video special effects) content creators have been making the news for all the right reasons.
One goes by the moniker of Sofyank who is widely regarded as Malaysia’s foremost VFX practitioner after he won the Ultimate VFC Challenge in Los Angeles in April, underlining that the young Kelantanese is no jaguh kampung (local champion) and that the lad’s skills in this highly creative sphere is of international standard.
The other is Aina Mariah whose VFX efforts have been garnering millions of views with her work being highlighted in foreign media. She had expressed her wish to meet Sofyank and recently got to collaborate with her idol, stating she learnt so much from the VFX guru.
Aina says she had put her downtime during lockdown to good use by studying video editing techniques on youtube. Her many efforts have wowed netizens with their charm and inventiveness. She has since had the chance to work with some local celebrities.
The efforts of these two young special effects wizards are to be celebrated as the embodiment of new generation of Melayu Baru.
They are unencumbered by perceptions of Melayu malas, displaying no small amount of ingenuity in their work that – as mentioned above – has garnered plenty of acclaim from netizens.
Instead of harping on the need for handouts and government assistance, these two enterprising individuals have used resources freely available on the internet to fuel their imaginations, resulting in work that is internationally-recognised.
It is a brave new world where borders have disappeared and there is a free-flow of ideas and talent, unfettered by the domestic preoccupation with race.
Bravo to these two for stepping up the plate and showing not just their Malay brethren but to all Malaysians with right attitude and application, the world can indeed be their oyster. – Oct 20, 2023
