Bukit Aman to procure sniper rifles worth RM2.3 mil, anti-riot gear for FRU

IN a move to enhance the capabilities of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU), Bukit Aman is set to acquire 13 sniper rifles at a cost of RM2.3 mil, as announced by Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain.

The allocation recently approved by the Home Ministry includes various assets aimed at reinforcing the anti-riot formation’s arsenal.

“The approved allocation includes procurement of anti-riot safety gears comprising 1,000 units of protective body armour and 1,000 units of gas mask with total costs of RM10 million; and RM2.3 million for procurement of 13 units of .22 sniper rifles,” said Razarudin, speaking at the 68th-anniversary celebration of the FRU in Kuala Lumpur.

In addition to the sniper rifles and protective gear, the allocated funds will be used to purchase 10 battle vans (RM3.6 mil), four float bonded trucks for the FRU’s Cavalry Unit (RM2.2 mil), 10 anti-riot dogs (RM900,000), and replacements for 175 riot guns (RM2.8 mil).

“It is hoped that these new assets will be fully utilised by FRU personnel to continue providing the best service,” added Razarudin.

The procurement aligns with efforts to equip the FRU with state-of-the-art resources to maintain public order and safety.

Simultaneously, the top police officer inaugurated the FRU’s new camp facilities in Kuala Lumpur, showcasing the commitment to modernising infrastructure for law enforcement. – Dec 7, 2023
