FORMER finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin will be charged in the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court this Monday (Jan 29). He eagerly anticipates his day in court.
The 85-year-old millionaire, in a brief statement said he will be charged with the same charges as his wife Toh Puan Naimah Khalid.Naimah is accused of failing to declare her ownership of companies, several plots of land here and in Penang as well as two vehicles.“Yesterday (Jan 26), the Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recorded a statement from me.
My lawyer was informed that I will be charged on Monday for an offence under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 which is related to the declaration of assets. Well, I’m looking forward to my days in Court,” he said..On Jan 23, Naimah was charged in accordance with Section 36(2) of the MACC Act 2009 for failing to declare 12 assets belonging to her. A day later, MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki informed that his party had received permission to prosecute Daim.
Naimah entered a plea of not guilty to the charges, asserting in a media statement that she is innocent and has not engaged in any wrongdoing or criminal activities. She also claimed that the prosecution targeting her and her husband amounted to a type of political persecution.The MACC however, could not proceed with Daim’s charges after he was hospitalised around the second week of January. Daim was released from the hospital yesterday.The offence carries a prison sentence of not more than five years and a maximum fine of RM100,000 if convicted. – Jan 27, 2023
