PKR election machinery must pay heed to enormous gap in its cyberspace conquest vs PAS

WHETHER there is any truth in this modern-day adage – “those who control cyberspace can bring the world to their knees” – is debatable but this is surely an area that PKR is weak and lacking in both resources and strategy.

Unless the party which spearheads the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition can ‘upscale’ its cyberspace reach, it may have to pay a heavy price in terms of a widening disconnect with the so-called #Undi18 generation that forms future support base for the party.

A netizen MYpolitiko #FreePalestine🇵🇸 (@mypolitiko) pointed to the wide disparity between the number of followers and likes in the TikTok accounts of PKR Youth a.k.a. Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) and PAS Youth (see main image).

“Don’t ask why young people chose PN (Perikatan Nasional) in the the last general election. Do not pretend not to know the cause. Want to know why PKR failed to obtain the votes of youngsters?” asked the poster in a recent tweet. “It’s pretty obvious who’s more serious about winning the youth vote.”

Aside from support for the youth wings of both parties, @mypolitiko also pointed to the enormous disparity in the number of followers and likes for both the PKR and PAS’ mouthpieces which are Suara Keadilan and HarakahDaily respectively (see below).

Most netizens were little surprised with the findings.

Sone even justified that PAS has put in place an effective recruitment system that stretches to the grassroots.

Other netizens argued that PAS leveraged both race and religion until truth and untruth become obscure to woo the youngsters to their side.

Some blamed the PKR Youth from being complacent.

Or could it be that PKR Youth leaders are keener to promote themselves on their personal accounts instead of making their presence felt on their party’s social media sites? – March 6, 2024
