Muhyiddin reminded of his ‘undemocratic’ moves when in power

PASIR Gudang MP Hassan Karim defended the Madani government against criticism from former premier Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who said the government is suppressing people’s freedom and is being undemocratic.Responding to Muhyiddin, Hassan asked the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman to look at his record before accusing the Madani government on the subjects of democracy and freedom. In a post on his social media page, Hassan said it is not true that the Madani government is less democratic than the PN-led government. He reminded Muhyiddin of the closure of Parliament and the sudden declaration of a state of emergency.“We were told that Parliament had been suspended and the eighth prime minister Muhyiddin had declared a nationwide state of emergency.“I am the MP for Pasir Gudang who was elected by the people, Muhyiddin’s actions at that time were undemocratic and suppressed the freedom of Parliament,” he added. Therefore, he said, he objected to the actions of the PN government at the time and filed a judicial review action against the government’s decision to declare a state of emergency and suspend Parliament.“So I have challenged the actions of the Bersatu president and his government. I have filed a judicial review action on the PN government’s decision to declare a state of emergency and suspend Parliament,” he wrote. He detailed how his attempt to get the Johor Bahru High Court to declare the emergency proclamation invalid was rejected by the court.“I wanted to prove that Muhyiddin’s anti-democratic actions are wrong.” – March 10, 2024
