UMNO Youth chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh said he has been detained at the Kota Kinabalu police headquarters despite being scheduled to give a statement at the Dang Wangi police station tomorrow.
In a Facebook post this morning (April 5) Akmal vowed to give the police his full cooperation.
“Pray for everything to be facilitated. I will not move an inch from our stance,” he said.
The Merlimau assemblyman’s detention comes following his heavy push for a nationwide boycott of convenience store chain KK Mart following the “Allah” socks controversy where socks with the word “Allah” were being sold at its Bandar Sunway outlet recently.
Despite legal action being taken against KK Mart Group founder and executive chairman Datuk Seri Chai Kee Kan and his wife Loh Siew Mui in her capacity as the company’s director, Akmal had vowed to continue calling for a boycott of the convenience store chain.
Previously on March 27, His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia had expressed his displeasure at the controversy and called for stern action to be taken against those responsible.
In a second statement within a week on the controversy, His Majesty had also warned parties not to take advantage of the issue, including by inciting the public.
It was reported on Monday (April 1) that a third KK Super Mart was fire-bombed after a Molotov Cocktail was thrown at some boxes placed at the five-foot-way of the outlet on Jalan Satok in Kuching.
The first incident of a targeted attack on KK Super Mart outlets was in Bidor, Tapah on March 26, and the second in Sungai Isap, Kuantan on March 29.
All three incidents were believed to have been linked to the earlier “Allah” printed socks controversy. – April 5, 2024
