MALAYSIA’S top women double pair of Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan can now look forward to avenging their disappointment at the finals of the Korea Open 2024 earlier this month whereby they only emerged runners-up.
This comes about as Pearly-Thinaah have inflicted a second successive defeat on first seeded South Korean pair of Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hee at the Li-Ning Hong Kong Open 2024 today (Sept 13).
The third seeded Malaysians won in rubber games 22-20, 17-21, 21-15 in 74 minutes. They will meet the winner of the match between fourth seeded South Koreans Kim So Yeong-Kong Hee Yong and China’s second seeded Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning at the finals tomorrow (Sept 14).
The Malaysians have advanced to the semi-finals stage after defeating eighth seeded Indonesians Febrina Dwipuji Kusuma-Amallia Cahaya Pratiwi in starlight games 21-14, 21-13 yesterday (Sept 13).
Recall that at the Korea Open 2024 finals, Pearly-Thinaah had also defeated Baek-Lee in straight games 21-18, 21-13 at the semi-finals stage.
But on the finals on Sept 1, the duo lost tamely in straight games to home pair of Jeong Na Eun and Kim Hye Jeong 120-21, 11-21.
Top national mixed double pair of Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei will be meeting first seeded China’s Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping later today (Sept 14) in another semi-finals match that features Malaysians. – Sept 14, 2024
