AN MCA Youth leader has called for all political parties to refrain from pressuring the Johor state government to form a unity government.
Its information chief Neow Choo Seong said in a period where the people’s welfare and the state’s growth must take precedence, political manoeuvring should be put aside in favour of unity in action and purpose.
His response in the matter is in light of recent statements by DAP and Amanah leaders, including Johor DAP vice chairperson Teo Nie Ching and Johor Amanah chief Aminolhuda Hassan who had doubled down on their calls for a unity government in the state.
“While cooperation is vital, MCA Youth views such insistence as potentially undermining public confidence in these leaders’ sincerity, particularly after their recent collaboration in the Mahkota by-election,” Neow stressed.
He further underscored the party’s unwavering support for the unity government at the federal level without making any demands for positions of power or authority, adding that MCA’s priority is clear: to work hand-in-hand with all stakeholders to uplift the people and ensure that government initiatives have a positive and lasting impact.
“This focus on the greater good must outweigh the pursuit of political influence or personal agendas,” stated Neow.
“We are also committed to renewing and empowering MCA, striving to regain the trust of all Malaysians regardless of race, religion, or background.
Our mission is to cultivate greater youth engagement and professional participation in the political process, ensuring that fresh perspectives are brought into the party’s vision for the future.”
On Sept 19 Aminolhuda was quoted by FMT as saying that the Johor state government should consider forming a unity government if Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah wins the Mahkota by-election.
The Johor government was formed by BN, which has 39 seats in the state assembly, with the support of Pakatan Harapan’s 12 seats.
However, the two coalitions have not formed an alliance, unlike at the federal government level.
In the Sept 28 Mahkota by-election, Syed Hussien won the Mahkota by-election with a vote majority of 20,648.
In a straight fight between Syed Hussien and Perikatan Nasional’s Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, the BN candidate won a total of 27,995 votes over his opponent’s 7,347. – Oct 1, 2024
