THE viral topic about a newly installed speed trap camera on FT006 Jalan Tanjong Bungah near Sri Golden Bay Condominium has since caught the attention of the Tanjong Bunga Assemblyman’s Office.
It has confirmed, along with relevant agencies, that this is not a speed trap camera.
The statement continued that the camera is a CCTV installed on private land, and a search on Google Street View shows that the pole has been in place since 2021.
“We would like to remind the public to share information responsibly and to verify its accuracy before drawing any conclusions. If in doubt, please do not share,” continued the statement.
Netizen Bob Nigotta, however, had other ideas in mind. He said when a question was asked, people do not answer. Only when people share it will they get a response.
Another netizen came up with a list of questions being unsatisfied with the response.
An admin on Zairil Khir Johari’s has since replied to each of the questions:
1. It was clearly stated that Tanjong Bunga State Constituency have conducted verification with relevant government departments and none of the departments installed the so-called ‘speed trap camera’. It is in fact a CCTV.
If one is to refer to Google Street View, it can be traced that the structure has been in existence as far back as in 2021, which is in contrary to claims made by social media users.
2. Neither PDRM nor JPJ. It belongs to private land owner.
3. Again to reiterate, the CCTV was installed within the boundary of private land by the private land owner.
4. Yes, indeed. It is a CCTV and NOT speed trap camera, as stated above.
5. Again, admin is compelled to repeat, it is a CCTV.
Now that it has been confirmed that the suspicious camera is a CCTV and not a speed trap camera, traffic offenders in Penang can breathe a sigh of relief and continue with their road rage.
Either that or we could all abide by the rules and not worry whether the suspicious camera being a speed trap or not because the innocent fears not the rules of the land. – Oct 15, 2024
