WHAT happens if a passenger doesn’t wear a seatbelt? Besides the obvious risk to one’s safety, they may find themselves an unwilling subject in a viral video, especially if the driver is a witty lady.
Here in a brief video posted on X by a netizen, the driver could be seen asking the front passenger if she had RM300. Confused, she could only gawk at the question.
The situation was clarified when the driver added that if she did not possess RM300, she is required to wear a seatbelt.
“Kalau takda rm300, pakai sealbelt”
bagus kakak ini ingatkan 👍

The video, although brief, conveyed an impactful message about wearing a seatbelt, albeit sarcastically which caught the attention of netizens, with over 1,800 shares and steadily rising.
However, quite a number of netizens are in disagreement over the way she communicated to the passengers. Here are but a few examples:
Netizen ret said it would suffice for one to simply say to wear a seatbelt instead of being passive aggressive.
Another netizen added that she would be annoyed by the sarcasm.
However, Farra Atilah cautioned netizens about the authenticity of the video as it may be created for content.
One netizen said such behaviour will automatically garner a one star from the passenger. In an era where e-hailing is a common practise, we have no doubt of this happening.
JSoul also suggested the driver go straight to the point, mentioning to them to wear their seatbelts or get slapped with a fine of RM300.
“Sometimes people might forget, and they have been shamed as the video has been viraled and seen by many people. What is the motive? If it is a lesson, their faces can be blurred,” JSoul added.
We do agree that there are many better and more diplomatic ways to convey the importance of wearing the seatbelt to a passenger.
However, will this video be viral then? As netizen Jsoul put it, perhaps the privacy of the passenger should be protected?
We suppose not many people would find it amusing to be subjected to such sarcasm while being turned into a viral content for online consumption.
Then there is the overarching question on whether the video is authentic in the first place. – Oct 20, 2024
