DAP Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee has expressed outrage over the spread of misinformation regarding the Citizenship Bill amendments.
Describing the campaign against the bill as “sick and disgusting,” Lee condemned the use of what he called ‘lies’ to discredit the efforts of the government.
“I do not want to speculate on who is behind this fake news campaign, but it is outright wrong to use lies against us,” he said.
The lies and misinformation is still spreading like wildfire. I do not want to speculate who is behind this fake news campaign. But It is SICK and DISGUSTING.
The amendments r definitely not perfect. I said so in Parliament. But2 use outright lies to discredit us is wrong. Contd pic.twitter.com/HgUq5eQYKz

Lee acknowledged that the amendments aren’t perfect and admitted to saying so in parliament. However, he emphasised that the bill addresses important changes.
The original constitution presumed foundlings (abandoned infants) to be born of permanent residents (pemastautin tetap), while the previous bill proposed presuming them as non-citizens.
The newly passed amendments, supported by 206 out of 221 MPs, now presume foundlings to be born of Malaysian mothers, improving their status and offering them greater protection.
Lee urged the public to review the facts rather than fall victim to misinformation, as the amendments represent a significant step forward.
