Dodging disaster: A motorcyclist’s guide to surviving the streets

FOR many people, ordering food on grab is just that, making an order while waiting impatiently for the food to arrive as soon as possible.

But how many people would put themselves into the shoes of a motorcyclist as they rush to deliver said order on time in a rush hour traffic jam?

Non motorcyclists will not understand the fear and danger that these people go through, as shown in this video on X.

In a nutshell, the video highlighted what goes on in the mind of a motorcyclist when he or she is crossing the middle of the road filled with cars from both sides.

Would a door open suddenly? Will a car change lanes suddenly without giving a signal? All these spell disaster to the motorcyclist who navigates the heavy traffic with little protection.

One netizen advised that the rider must not weave in and out too quickly.

“As riders, we need to assume that each of these cars has the potential to change lanes suddenly. Awareness is crucial. If it happens, we need to be able to break in time to stop, or at least to take evasive action towards any potential safe space,” he said, adding that there are too many fast riders out there.

AbamKemat said it is frightening if a door is to suddenly open. However, even more frightening is the flying spittle that hits one’s leg, coming from a person who lowers down the window and spits without looking back first.

One netizen shared that as long as the rider can use the left lane, then use it. But when the splitting lane is available during the traffic jam, do not throttle up to 80 km per hour. “Yours sincerely, a valid B2 license holder for 12 years,” he added.

Afffff gave a thumb rule where the rider should have two fingers on the brake, and another two on the clutch.

He also recommended that riders use the fourth gear and maintain the speed at 40 km per hour. – Oct 25, 2024
