THE US State department has imposed sanctions on six Malaysian companies over their connections to Russia and the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The sanctioned companies include Zeolite Mansford Sdn Bhd, Centrina United Sdn Bhd, Gyntec Carbon Sdn Bhd, Moralability Industry Sdn Bhd, and Melix Global Sdn Bhd.
In a press release issued on Wednesday (Oct 30), the US State Department stated that these companies are part of a broader list of 120 individuals and entities across various countries.
“The sanctions aim to disrupt attempts to evade existing restrictions and target entities in multiple third countries, including China, India, Malaysia, Thailand, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates,” the statement read.
The announcement further noted that these sanctions specifically target producers, exporters, and importers of items deemed essential to Russia’s military-industrial complex.
“This includes microelectronics and computer numerical control items identified by the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security, in coordination with the European Union, United Kingdom, and Japan.”
These sanctions came right after the Madani government allied with the BRICS, a forum for cooperation among a group of leading emerging economies.
The BRICS includes 9 countries – Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, the Russian Federation, South Africa, United Arab Emirates. – Nov 3, 2024
