Beware of lorry blind spots; video by a heavy vehicle driver highlights obvious dangers

SOME may not be aware but drivers of high vehicles like lorries and long trailers have limited visibility due to the number of blind spots.

This was highlighted in a video shared by UpdateInfo (@update11111) on the X platform where a driver of truck took a clip showing a motorcycle rider with kid in tow in front of the vehicle but clearly out of view from the driver’s seating position.

The clip was taken when vehicles had stopped at a traffic light.

The motorcycle could only be seen when the driver leaned forward towards the passenger seat; the clip further confirming that the motorcycle was nowhere to be seen in any of the sideview mirrors.

The obvious dangers of being so close to large vehicles was echoed by a few commenters, reiterating drivers of these heavy machines had many blind spots.

With some netizens saying it was good that the driver was alert and had the good sense to take a video, highlighting the limited visibility.

One hoped that the motorcycle rider gets the chance to see the video and not repeat the same mistake.

However, some showed their ire at motorcyclists who seemed to own the roads and always blame lorry or car drivers for mishaps that befall them.

Quite a few didn’t hold back when describing the foolishness of the motorcyclist who had a child as pillion.

One netizen said it was time for a new set of regulations, requiring heavy vehicles to prominently display warning stickers regarding blind spots.

It doesn’t need saying. Malaysian road fatalities are akin to war zones.

Please be careful and conscientious on the road. – Nov 9, 2024
