A SHORT but scary dash cam clip has highlighted the increase in insurance frauds.
Shared by social media influencer mhmmdhsm (@mhmmdhsm) on the X platform recently, the clip shows a man very suddenly throwing himself onto the road. Luckily, the motorist displayed quick reflexes to avoid any collision.
Purportedly taken along Jalan Duta in Kuala Lumpur, the poster said it was fortunate nothing untoward happened as the road was going downhill.

“It seems compulsory for cars these days to have a dash cam to furnish evidence in the event of a mishap,” opined @mhmmdhsm.
This is necessary to counter incidences of insurance scams stemming from unscrupulous road users – whether motorists or pedestrians – who are desperate enough to risk their lives and that of others to cause a road accident.
Some netizens lamented this culture of frauds, scams and over-claiming was causing the insurance market to inflate.
One commenter expressed concern that this trend would lead to victims of genuine cases of accidental collisions to be left unattended by the roadside.
More than one said having avoided the “fallen person”, they car driver should stop his vehicle to give him a good kicking.
Some commented that this looked more like a suicide attempt than an insurance claim.
A few contended that even if it the said incident were to be a suicide attempt, there were other ways that do not have dire consequences for others, for instance drowning in a river.
Whatever the case may be, one netizen urged fraudsters and those with suicidal tendencies to think very carefully before trying something like this. Life is full of challenges but this is not the solution. – Nov 21, 2024
