ALTHOUGH English is the international language, its true form is usually confined to the native English speaking countries. Anywhere else across the world and English, or Manglish makes a common appearance.
That said, a well-travelled native English speaker should find many different forms of “English” across the world that incidentally, makes for comedy gold.
In a viral post on X by netizen Dominic Damian JAN 1513, the Hotel Holmes in Johor has taken the limelight for its statement warning visitors not to touch the Christmas decoration.

It left many of our fellow netizens in stitches. What took it to the heights of comedy perfection was not the poor grammar, but the fact that the hotel would reward anyone RM300 if they were to break the decoration.

One netizen through a GIF sums up what would happen should this be true.
The comment section was a colourful place indeed. Rindaman said Johor Darul Tazim should now be called Johor Darul Manglish while another netizen alleged that most small hotels have bad management.
Not sure if this is true or not, but shay the yapper shared that the owner of Hotel Holmes is a Singaporean.
Then there was Mrs Hamid who suggested that the hotel call up a retired English and Malay language teacher to solve the problem.
Also, CatLover added that ChatGPT was available to translate any language into English.
Looking at the viral post, we believe it is an appropriate time to mention that it pays to learn English, more so if you are running a hotel business that is frequented by native English speakers.
However, there is a consolation for Hotel Holmes. All publicity is good publicity. They had gotten quite a good deal of exposure, but not in the way they had imagined possible.—Dec 15, 2024
