Fans brawl at Bandar Tasik Selatan after Harimau match gone wrong

MALAYSIA was shown the exit from the 2024 ASEAN Cup campaign after a goalless draw against traditional rivals Singapore in their final Group A match at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil last night (Dec 20).

Malaysia looked stronger but missed several chances. In Group A, Thailand led with 12 points, Singapore had seven, and Malaysia and Cambodia had four each, and this means Harimau Malaya is out of the competition.

However, football fans did not seem to appreciate the end result.

Video footage of them fighting at an LRT station was posted on social media, and users were calling them “hooligans” for such behaviours. Disagreeing with opposing teams is one thing, but turning to vandalism is another.

Redditors commended the police officer for being able to break up the drama. But many acknowledge that the Malaysian police force is efficient when it comes to their work. Others add that if someone were to attack an officer, their punishment would be severe.

Some comments said the public transportation system is used by thousands of Malaysians daily to commute to work. Being violent and mishandling it over a football match is rather insensitive, stated a user.

X users chimed in, stating that our football teams are still in the regional standards, and losing or drawing in a match is something common. An X user recommended RapidKL to find these individuals and report them to the authorities. — Dec 21, 2024
