PAS ups its offensive against Kor Ming, Hannah Yeoh by mooting ‘ummah’ rally, n/wide police reports

IF mobilising nationwide police report does not do the trick, PAS Youth has orchestrated a peaceful ummah solidarity assembly right after Friday’s prayers tomorrow (Jan 3) to protest the actions of quarters deemed to be disrupting the harmony of Malaysian Muslims at the Kampung Baru Mosque in Kuala Lumpur.

Organised by the Solidariti Gerakan Bangkit Rakyat, the gathering known as Himpunan Bangkit Ummah will be jointly supported by Bersatu Youth and several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), according to PAS Youth deputy chief Mohd Hafez Sabri.

The Manjoi state assemblyman had told Malay language portal MalaysiaGazette that among the core agenda at the proposed rally is to protest against perceived threats to Islam linked to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming and Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Nga who is DAP’s vice-chairman is embroiled in a war of words with PAS after he slammed the Islamist party for propagating deviant teaching (ajaran sesat) as the latter accused him of abusing government premises to hold Christmas celebration involving Muslim staff from his ministry. The spat has turned ugly with PAS currently mulling a legal suit against him.

As for Yeoh who is also the Segambut MP, PAS has a bone to pick with her pertaining to the publication of her 2014 autobiography “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey” which allegedly contains elements of subtle propagation of Christianity – “a matter deemed to be taken seriously and be opposed”.

“As citizens and Muslims, we feel threatened by Hannah’s confession for violating Malaysia’s sovereignty as an Islamic country and Islam is the religion of the Federation,” claimed Hafez.

“We request a thorough investigation by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and request that the Home Ministry ban the book. We (farther) urge the PM to sack Hannah. She’s not suitable to lead the Youth and Spotts Ministry,” he added.

With regard to Nga who is also the Teluk Intan MP, PAS Youth claimed that a total of 69 police reports have been lodged against him nationwide as of yesterday (Jan 1).

“PAS Youth urges the police to investigate under Section 298A of the Penal Code and ensure that government premises are no longer misused for events that violate religious sensitivities,” the youth wing stated in a Facebook post.

“Islam must be respected as the official religion of the federation for the sake of national harmony.” Section 298A of the Penal Code is a blasphemy provision that criminalises words and actions that insult a religion. It is punishable by imprisonment for two to five years.

Like it or not, even the PAS Non-Muslim Supporters Wing (DHPP) led by its chief N. Balasubramaniam has also been joining forces with its Muslim colleagues to lodge police report against Nga on grounds that the latter’s remarks were insulting, slanderous and could divide Malaysia’ multi-cultural society.

“We ask all state DHPP leaders and committee members to stand together to protect national harmony and oppose actions that can divide the community,” he stated on the DHPP PUSAT’s FB page. – Jan 2, 2024
