TTDI ‘mosque invasion’ by mental patient: Don’t conveniently point fingers at Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh

IT is very unfair – if not unfortunate – for Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to be dragged into the incident of a mentally unsound man who ‘loitered’ in a mosque in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), Kuala Lumpur which happens to be part of her Segambut parliamentary constituency.

She has obviously become an easy political prey with her autobiography “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey” having ruffled the feathers of opportunistic PAS following the KL High Court ruling favouring former inspector-general of police (IGP) Tan Sri Musa Hassan who is the defendant in her defamation suit.

Following a viral video clip of the ‘mosque invasion’ incident during dawn prayers on New Year’s Day (Jan 1) by poster Mohd Jafrie Hussain on Facebook, many commenters are sadly believing in the PAS narrative that non-Muslims have become more daring to provoke the sanity of Islam as Malaysia’s official religion.

Imagine the damage that has been done – or the extent of brainwashing – given the said clip has amassed 6K likes, 4.2K comments and 7K shares at the time of writing.

Thankfully, many sensible netizens came to Yeoh’s rescue by ticking off the commenter for linking the incident to the DAP lawmaker.

Moreover, even though the identity or faith of the Bermuda and sandal-clad 25-year-old man was not revealed by Brickfields district police chief Ku Mashariman Ku Mahmood in his statement, some commenters of the clip have begun to suspect that he is not a Malaysian with speculation being rife that the suspect is of “Arab descent”.

But alas, the clip bearing the caption “A provocation at dawn of 1/1/25 at TTDI Mosque. Don’t let us lose our patience” has since been ‘hijacked’ by pro-opposition blogger Ratu Naga with a ‘tantalising’ caption that resonates with the tastebud of her audience – “”Non-Muslim man who causes trouble in mosques has mental problem. Such excuse is already expected”.

By averting the mention of the culprit’s nationality history of his mental illness since April 2022, not only are non-Muslim Malaysians but even the Madani government have again been made a convenient scapegoat with brickbats of sorts hurled by Ratu Naga’s fan base. – Jan 3, 2025
