RECENTLY, an unfortunate girl on TikTok has been gaining prominence for lamenting about her bland diet to combat her health condition.
In the video, she claimed she had never drinked sweet stuff for nearly two decades but was still diagnosed with diabetes.
Identified as Mira, she asked a man in the video, likely her father, on how she could enjoy life if all she could do was eat rice, broccoli and fish.
Kesian dia tak pernah minum manis tapi dapat kencing manis.
Siapa tahu macam mana boleh jadi macamtu? 🤔 pic.twitter.com/HAIZxmoEAM

Netizens in the comment section identified her medical condition as SLE, also known as Systemic lupus erythematosus with some claiming that she is likely to be suffering from diabetes type 1.
Arman 𝕏 #freePalestine said this was what happens when the immune system attacks the pancreas, making it hard for the body to produce insulin.
Several others pointed out that just because a person does not drink sweet stuff does not mean they cannot get diabetes.
“Rice and flour contains sugar that we don’t see,” said Hasief-Freelance Recruiter.
Ivan added that this could be a problem of genetics, and that there was nothing that could be done about it.
Then there was Amaraidil Arthit in a succinctly written comment, pointed out that genetics plus rice equals whatever that the girl was suffering from.
For a better perspective, the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Disease defined SLE as a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect many parts of the body.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease where the body’s immune system, which typically defends against infections and illnesses, mistakenly targets its own tissues.
This causes inflammation and, in some cases, lasting damage to various organs. Symptoms of lupus can include:
1/ Arthritis
2/ Fevers.
3/ Fatigue
4/ Rash (appears on the face across the nose and cheeks)
5/ Hair loss.
6/ Sores, which are usually painless, in the nose and mouth (most often on the roof of the mouth).
The symptoms are manifold and not confined to the list above. While anyone can develop lupus, women are about nine times more likely to be affected than men.
The disease most commonly occurs in individuals between the ages of 15 and 45, but it can also develop in children or later in life, said the medical website. —Jan 24, 2025
