Petronas Philharmonic Hall cancels Harith Iskander’s stand-up comedy show

PETRONAS Philharmonic Hall (DFP) has cancelled the stand-up comedy show by Harith Iskander originally scheduled for today.

“The management of Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS (DFP) regretfully announces the cancellation of the stand-up comedy show by Harith Iskander, under the DFP Punchline Series, scheduled on Jan 25, 2025,” DFP said in a post on its website.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”

DFP also informed ticket buyers of the options they have since the show was cancelled.

Option one is to exchange the ticket for any other DFP/MPO concert this season with refunds if the new ticket is lower in price. There will also be a surcharge if the new ticket is higher priced than the cancelled show. Option two is to get a refund, which will be made via the original payment method used at the time of purchase.

The hall did not give a reason for the cancellation but it could be linked to the comments by Harith which are deemed by some as satirical towards Islam.

Meanwhile, the police have recorded the statement from Harith regarding a post on his Facebook account about the ‘ham’ scandal that took Malaysia by storm last week.

To date, the police have received 16 reports nationwide related to this issue.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said authorities have also identified another individual named ‘Cecelia Yap Song’, who is believed to be connected to the case.

He added that the police are still in the process of locating this individual.

The comedian sparked laughter initially online with his comedic struggle over a cup of coffee labeled “kopi ham sap”.

Sharing his humorous confusion, he joked about the drink’s suggestive name, questioning if it was meant to be eaten or drunk and whether his moral compass was intact after consuming it. The post accompanied by a photo of the menu went viral, drawing amused reactions from fans, but it later attracted the ire of some who made police reports against the comedian.

The joke coincided with a recent halal controversy involving “ham and cheese” sandwiches in KK Mart outlets, where investigations revealed improper halal certification despite the “ham” being chicken-based. His wit lightened the debate. — Jan 25, 2025
