THIS year is crucial, with the state election expected to be held at any time, according to Sabah UMNO chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
“Sabah UMNO’s journey over the past 34 years has been filled with challenges, ups and downs, but it has brought significant changes to the state’s economic, social, and community development,” he said.
He also expressed confidence, despite the party’s defeat in the 2018 General Election, that UMNO is now a strong political force and that many parties wish to collaborate with UMNO.
Bung recalled how many leaders left UMNO, almost causing the party to collapse in Sabah after its defeat. Despite facing pressure, threats, and intimidation, he took on the role of Sabah UMNO chief and led the party’s recovery.
However, he emphasised that the party will carefully consider alliances in the upcoming state election, learning from past betrayals and challenges. — March 1, 2025
