Netizens rejoice that the US did not list Malaysia among 41 countries banned

PRESIDENT Donald Trump’s administration is considering a travel ban targeting 41 countries, divided into full, partial, or conditional visa suspensions.

The directive, part of an immigration crackdown, echoes Trump’s first-term policy banning citizens from seven majority-Muslim nations, upheld by the Supreme Court in 2018.

Now, countries like North Korea, Venezuela, Iran are banned, while countries like Belarus, Pakistan, and East Timor may be under partial suspension if they do not adhere to certain American requirements.

Malaysian social media users are rejoicing that our country is not affected by this. However, it is unclear how long we are able to stay unaffected as the American President may change his mind.

Others add that if PAS were to take over the country, we might be right atop of the ban list.

Netizens added that if we wanted to stay behind similarly to nations like Afghanistan, voting for PAS might help with it. Nevertheless, some users appear to be grateful that we’re not banned.

Oddly, they made certain peculiar remarks at the same time. A TikTok user claims that Malaysians are working together with Trump and implied that it is a good thing.

It appears that most are pleased with how Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is able to keep Malaysia relatively unaffected by this travel ban.

Netizens are praising him for his ability to possibly negotiate with Trump. —Mar 16, 2025
