Perhaps the Rottweilers in the Kuala Ketil attack were victims too

IT IS interesting to note that the title of man’s best friend is bestowed upon dogs, yet news such as vicious dog bites on humans continue to occasionally occupy the headlines.

The recent dog attack at Kuala Ketil was one such example, where two Rottweilers wounded five individuals.

Despite the severity of the attack, netizens were not welcoming of the news that the two dogs were euthanized.

Instead, the blame has since been heaped on the owner, with a good many stating that the dogs were mere victims too.

According to netizen @gajuspedas, he claimed he has read somewhere about a westerner stating that such dogs need to be trained. “The owners should be put to sleep together with her dogs,” he said.

@madnurrrr added that westerners send their canines for training while Malaysians only keep their dogs in cages.

“When they are released, other people will get bitten,” said @madnurrrr.

@TopeqM added that the owner was good at buying dogs but not good at caring for them.

“Only a fool would keep a Rottweiler. This bread is aggressive. Pitbulls are the same. If you want to keep a dog, get a Golden Retriever. This breed is a bit better,” @lostmygodamind suggested.

Also, @reyhan1411 shared that a license is required to breed Rottweilers.

“If you wanted to bring them out, they have to wear a muzzle since these animals are dangerous,” said @reyhan1411 among other things.

Another netizen stated that regardless of whether the animal was put to sleep or not, he will proceed with the lawsuit as the authorities only issues a fine for not having a license.

The injuries you suffered. The trauma you faced,” he said.

According to The Wilhite Law Firm, a Personal injury law firm, although Rottweilers rank as one of the strongest dog breeds, they will not act aggressively or viciously if they receive appropriate training.

Rottweilers have considerable strength and an innate loyalty toward and desire to protect their owners and families. As a result, Rottweilers can seem aggressive or vicious towards someone outside the dog’s home or the family it lives with,” the website was quoted saying.

In response, some municipalities in the US have barred residents from owning Rottweilers.

However, with proper training and socialisation, a Rottweiler will not show aggression toward people or other animals unless threatened. —Apr 4, 2025
