Aliff Ahmad challenges free speech limits, Nurul Izzah denies involvement

INFLUENCER Aliff Ahmad was summoned by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for a social media post offering to investigate PKR vice-president Nurul Izzah Anwar using his “Scrut Analytica” system.

Defiant, Aliff dared MCMC to charge him under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities, refusing to delete the post and preparing a statutory declaration to confirm ownership. He attended questioning at MCMC’s Cyberjaya office, accompanied by a police officer.

Meanwhile, Nurul Izzah denied reporting him, stating he shouldn’t be probed for his statements. Aliff called the summons potential intimidation, urging MCMC to focus on serious issues.

“I’m ready to get charged. I urged them (MCMC officers) to charge me (in court).

“To make their lives easier, I prepared a statutory declaration to confirm that the Aliff Ahmad Facebook page is mine and the post was made by me.

“With the SD, it will be easier for the prosecutors to charge me. I won’t run, evade or delete (the post). By the way, they didn’t confiscate my phone,” he said on Facebook yesterday.

Aliff said that he went to the MCMC office on Friday (April 25) at 10.40 am for questioning.

He is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities or network service.

MCMC had summoned him over an offer to conduct an in-depth background check on Nurul Izzah through a system known as “Scrut Analytica”.

The Scrut Analytica co-founder said he received an official notice to be at MCMC’s headquarters in Cyberjaya at 8pm on Thursday (April 24) but went on Friday instead, as he was unavailable at that time.

Aliff Ahmad anticipated that any charges would reveal the complainant’s identity and spark an intriguing trial.

He warned that a lack of charges would indicate intimidation and a waste of time. — April 26, 2025
