Tourist gets roasted for saying Kedah has nothing interesting

RECENTLY, a local tourist who arrived in Kedah drew a good deal of attention for her remark that there was nothing of interest there.

To add salt to the wound, she even asked her friend for some recommendations, to which she replied that it was better to head off to Penang.

Kedahans, of course, did not find those remarks amusing. “Humans such as these who grow up in the clubs will not find any place of interest. Kedah is the best when it comes to nature,” said @Userzsxx.

Netizen @real_remorse further pointed out that the food in Kedah is cheap. Also, the brave could hike up Gunung Jerai.

Either that or tourists can enjoy the vista at Pantai Merdeka or buy cooking ingredients at Tanjung Dawai. 

@honeymilkcrunch further pointed out the foolishness of the lady in the video for going over to Kedah to look for a mochi cheesecake. “Go look for a laksa instead,” said @honeymilkcrunch.

Another netizen claimed she had a good time in Kedah. She recommended the delicious prawn noodle by the sea, the durian market and the grilled fish restaurants.

But it appears the lady in the video had some supporters. Netizen @hansriggs_ who went to Kedah to further his studies was surprised to find a rather quiet Alor Setar.

Initially he felt that Sarawak was a backward state but apparently Kuching has more malls.

@AbrasJenkABOTh added that Kedah isn’t big on development since most of the land had been used as padi fields. Even the forest has been gazetted to support the rain catchment areas for Perlis and Penang.

However, it would seem that Kedah is not unique in its own problems. @MohdzFahmi said Johor Bahru was not much different. “There is nothing much to be proud of there. The people have cooperated to run over to Melaka,” he said. —Apr 30, 2025
