WE Malaysians have always taken pride in our good food. Too good, perhaps, since our foreign friends appreciate it as much as we do.
Recently, a man from Jordan went viral in a video saying Malaysia has the best food. But what takes the cake was the fact that he was being questioned by an Indonesian lady.
As Malaysians, we know very well the heated rivalry between Indonesia and Malaysia. Apparently it goes beyond historical events and football, but food too.

The man in the video said he had a preference for nasi lemak and fried rice. To this, the lady replied that nasi goreng belongs to Indonesia, that he simply couldn’t remark that Malaysia was better if he liked fried rice.
“Guys, just accept the fact, Malaysia better,” he said. The viral video, which was shared over 829 times and garnering over 114 comments, saw many netizens condemning the lady for claiming fried rice as Indonesian.
“She thinks Indonesians are only good at fried rice,” said netizen @pitepakes while @stnrhzyh said it doesn’t matter if Indonesians claimed it as their own.
“Because our fried rice is better and more delicious. Your fried rice is weird,” @stnrhzyh added.
Another netizen claims the fried rice from Thailand, China and Indonesia are soulless, and that it was even worse for the Indonesian fried rice.
According to him it tastes like nasi minyak, which is good when paired with rendang and fried chicken. “Then later, they will say this is the perfect version,” he said.
“She doesn’t know that there are many types of fried rice in Malaysia,” said @Artonmyeyes.
Netizen @guyzrocket further pointed out that those fried rice stalls in Malaysia that hired Indonesian workers are usually not delicious. “It is dry, tasteless and exceedingly spicy,” he claimed.
But apparently the fried rice from Indonesia has some redeeming qualities, as according to @iam_ein who said it was at least better than the fried rice in Singapore.
Then there was @sengatrans who pointed out that fried rice has its roots in China. On another note, @mhermanrawi said the Ayam Taliwang in Lombok was good, although he was not impressed by the Indonesian fried rice.
Perhaps, @naspaisen_ made the best comment to conclude this topic, stating that his aunty would rather go to Thailand than Indonesia due to the hygiene problems there. —May 4, 2025
