ONE must wonder what is going on with politics in Malaysia with several parties calling on their rivals to go for dissolution to merge with one another.
Today, it is the DAP’s Kampar MP Chong Zhemin who urged MCA to dissolve and join DAP, arguing it should return its two parliamentary seats to UMNO, which he claims sustains MCA’s relevance.
In a statement, Chong called MCA irrelevant, accusing it of relying on UMNO votes while attacking DAP, stating, “No principles, no dignity.”
Chong said dissolving the party better suits MCA. He emphasised politics should prioritise reality over nostalgia, urging MCA to embrace pluralism and progress by joining DAP to work for a fairer, united Malaysia, welcoming those who share democratic values.
Meanwhile, UMNO and Bersatu are also in a tango over their future as stand-alone parties.
Former Prime Minister and Pagoh MP Muhyiddin Yassin, leader of Bersatu, claimed superiority over UMNO, highlighting Bersatu’s larger number of MPs and state assemblypersons.
Speaking at an event, he emphasised PN dominance, alongside PAS, in northern states, though PN only controls Kedah and Perlis, not Penang or Perak.
The former PM criticised UMNO for partnering with DAP in the federal coalition, accusing them of compromising principles. He asserted that Bersatu remains steadfast in its values, never wavering in its stance.
The remarks came after UMNO members told Bersatu to dissolve into UMNO. In reply, Muhyiddin asked UMNO to dissolve instead into Bersatu. —May 4, 2025
