Commercial crime losses in Pahang soar to RM26.3 mil in just four months

COMMERCIAL crime cases in Pahang have shown a worrying trend, with recorded losses reaching RM26.3 mil between January and April this year.

Pahang Police Chief, Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman, reported that a total of 817 investigation papers had been opened involving a range of commercial crime offences during that period.

He noted that the Kuantan district registered the highest number of cases, accounting for 333 incidents, or 36.5 per cent of the state’s total.

According to him, the number of investigation papers opened, excluding cases reported to the National Scam Response Centre, (NSRC) stands at 664, with 276 charges brought, equivalent to 41.6 per cent.

“For cases involving the NSRC, a total of 153 cases were recorded, with 39 charges, equivalent to 25.5 per cent,” he said during the May 2025 Monthly Assembly held at the Pahang Contingent Police Headquarters.

Shifting focus to road safety, Yahaya revealed that 8,183 road accidents were reported during the same four-month period, including 146 fatal incidents.

“The number of summonses issued this year has reached 99,840, compared to 63,194 in 2024. Meanwhile, the amount collected from fines this year totals RM1,359,641, compared to RM1,391,180 last year,” he added.

Yahaya emphasised that the police force will remain committed to tackling criminal activity, curbing drug abuse, and reducing road accidents and fatalities.

He also urged Pahang police personnel to adopt a more forward-looking and results-driven approach in achieving their annual performance targets.

“It is not only the quantity of work that must be carried out effectively, but more importantly, the standard and quality of work must always be improved,” he said. —May 5, 2025
