Rafizi regrets leak of private letter, urges respect for party ethics

PKR Deputy President Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli has voiced disappointment over the public leak of a confidential letter he had addressed to president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Secretary-General.

The letter, which outlined Rafizi’s decision not to officiate the party’s Youth (AMK) and Women’s wings congresses, was meant to remain private.

Rafizi said it should not have been exploited as a weapon in internal political manoeuvring.

He criticised the leak as indicative of unethical behaviour within the party ranks, stating that it showed a lack of adherence to basic organisational values and discipline.

“I only sent the letter to two individuals, the president and the secretary-general. How could a confidential letter be spread so widely?” he said.

Addressing his choice to step back from officiating the AMK and Women’s events, Rafizi clarified that it stemmed from a matter of principle, not personal feelings or political motivations.

He also raised alarm over what he described as a systematic effort to marginalise certain party members at the grassroots level, allegedly by circulating a “black and white list” of individuals to be removed.

“If the etiquette of party elections is respected, people won’t feel deeply wounded. But when lists emerge detailing who should be removed, that contradicts the spirit of the party,” he added.

Rafizi concluded by reaffirming that every party member should be allowed to choose their leaders without undue pressure or top-down interference. —May 19, 2025
