RM50 extortion by security guard at Kajang Hospital parking exposed; the elderly, outsiders targetted

WHEN one has to visit a hospital, it is usually under duress, either due to illness or visiting a friend or relative who is unwell.

Imagine, with the mind already flooded with pain and other thoughts, one is asked to fork out RM50 for the privilege of parking in the hospital’s open air car park.

This was precisely what happened to a visitor who was left shocked at the brazen attempt at extortion by a security guard at Kajang Hospital who threatened to clamp her vehicle.

Apparently, the female guard had demanded and taken RM50 from an elderly visitor (the complainant’s mother) who was obviously upset at this daylight robbery.

Only after being confronted with a phone camera and that the police would be called in did the security guard relent and return the ill-gotten gains.

The short clip of this incident was shared on X by @bckuppacc99 who surmised that many had probably fallen victim to this illegal enterprise. It appears that the elderly and outsiders were targeted.

The post has already generated over 766.9K view with many expressing disgust and anger at what is perceived as unscrupulous attempts at taking advantage of the weak and vulnerable.

To back-up the claim that this has been ongoing for some time, there were other videos and posts claiming the same. If indeed, a vehicle was indiscriminately parked, why not just clamp immediately – why wait and then offer to let the car be for a RM50 fee?

Many wondered aloud just how much side income this security guard was pocketing a day. It could even finance a Swiss holiday, opined one netizen.

Some wondered if the hospital management had taken appropriate action against the security guard or the security firm which hired her with this video going viral.

One commenter surmised that if this was not nipped in the bud, it would just be normalised. However, it does appear to be normal practice at this hospital’s car park with security guards showing off all manner of ugly colours.

Of course, it didn’t take long for the racists to turn this episode into yet another 3R (race, religion and royalty) narrative.

A few things this incident throws up.

Firstly, corrupt practices such as this are endemic in the country. They affect law enforcement, civil servants and foreigners who act as ‘jaga kereta’ (slang for illegal parking attendants). This transcends race and religion.

Secondly, the open manner in which this extortion was done could NOT have been oblivious to the hospital authorities. Did they just opt to close one eye or were they in some way complicit?

Last but not least, this will only STOP when the rakyat refuses to play along. This came to surface because many feel cheated at having to pay RM50 for parking privileges.

Will they do the same if they have to cough up after committing something illegal such as not wearing a safety belt when driving?

Fact: corruption is a two-way transaction. It will only end when there is no longer a willing buyer-willing seller scenario. – May 21, 2025
