Spooky abandoned housing area captures the imagination of netizens

IN A time and age where prices of homes are soaring through the stratosphere, it sure is a shame to see residential homes being abandoned.

Recently a video went viral on the cyberspace showcasing a residential area emptied of people.

With the weed growing in the lawn and the homes in disrepair, people began to question if the place was haunted, and for good reasons.

Netizen @Wild_MushrooMM3 who saw the video said the place could be a great setting to make a horror movie.

Then there was @kikojoe_epul who ominously said that there were bad stories about the place but he refused to elaborate.

Adding to his comment was @BeeHyunShup_04, saying that people who wanted to know why it was abandoned can try camping solo there for one night.

On the other hand, @daladom_ms commented that the design of the homes were beautiful. “Why was it being abandoned? The project was incomplete? Too expensive?” she wondered.

Another netizen said the homes should be either sold at market value or simply rented out at RM500. “Surely the place will be filled with people,” he said, adding that it held no value now that it was rotting away.

Even though the place appears to be very much abandoned, @aimanahn wanted one of the homes as long as it was free.

“Is this Taman Ilmu? In 2010 to 2011, the place was very happening,” said @amindzar.

One netizen confirmed that it was Taman Ilmu Bestari Jaya. According to him, the homes were built upon land that was previously a mine.

“It was a residential area for Unisel students but was ordered to be emptied since the structure there was deemed to be unsuitable for living,” he said, adding that the cost of repairs were estimated at RM60 mil, that the case was between 2005 to 2013.

@emi_faraway further theorised that the density of Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, Puchong and Bangi could be reduced if this housing area is being revitalised.

Towards this comment perhaps, @sayaorangmsia07 jokingly remarked that this should be easy if the Rohingya settlers came in and claimed the place. —May 27, 2025
