BITING the hand that feeds. This seems to be the sentiment among many netizens regarding a video clip that has gone viral.
Originally broadcast on TikTok by @aatvmedia.officials, it shows a lady identified as Puan Putri grumbling about the zakat (tithe) aid she received from the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP).
Among her grouses was that the aid in the form of household items for her and her kids are often months late in arriving.
To compound matters, many of the items were not what she requested for, including the wrong type of diapers.
She further groused of MAIWP’s inefficiency and bureaucracy by stating the system was slow and outmoded, hence necessitating her to file a written complaint at the Council’s office for the wrong items being sent.
Why can’t it be automated using digital resources such as a hand phone, she asked.

The video was shared on X by ALAN KENA SABAR (@IniAlaLalann) who berated the lady for being ungrateful while claiming that she in fact has no right to demand for aid for it was she who bore the children but could ill-afford to raise them properly.
This is when the poster sarcastically suggested that MAIWP send her some contraceptives instead.
In an update, he even shared that MAIWP has responded in writing to outline the many instances of aid that has been proffered to the lady in the clip.
This included a monthly allowance, medical aid and even business loans which does paint a rather poor picture of the recipient as an ingrate.
The video by ALAN KENA SABAR has generated 2.5M views at the time of writing with many commenters being similarly disgusted by the lady’s attitude in criticising MAIWP.
Many were of the opinion that having brought these children into this world, their welfare should be the parents’ responsibility – not MAIWP’s per se.
Others also pointed out that this lady admitted to receiving aid for “years” and thus should be grateful for it instead of complaining. One commenter wondered if she was expecting aid for life.
There were even sarcastic comments on whether this lady invited MAIWP officer when “romancing”. Another commenter simply asked her to stop breeding.
However, quite a number of netizens jumped to this lady’s defence, arguing that it was well within her rights to highlight MAIWP’s shortcomings. It was surmised that there will be no room for improvement if grouses on inefficiency are not addressed.
Some highlighted that the sending of wrong items was just pure wastage and should be plugged.
As one succinctly put it, the aid is meant to ease the burden. It is not difficult to just follow the request made by the recipient regarding the items needed.
While the knee-jerk reaction of many was to label the lady as ungrateful, it must be said she does highlight a number of pertinent issues.
Just because it is charitable aid does not mean one cannot voice out discontent or unhappiness on how it is distributed.
Like it or not, MAIWP is still a government department. Wastage and unnecessary leakages should be plugged.
While the lady in the video could have communicated her grouses better; perhaps it was just a reflection of her frustration at continuously being given short shrift.
