Anwar makes final appeal through polsec for Rafizi, Nik Nazmi to reconsider resignation

SENIOR political secretary to the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar, has urged former PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi to reconsider their resignations from the Cabinet following their defeat in party elections.

“I hope these two prominent party figures will reconsider their decision. There isn’t actually any major issue,” said Shamsul.

“Sometimes, when we speak, there are sentiments and emotions involved, but I believe the people judge us by our performance. If they return to the Cabinet and lead, it would certainly be for the better,” he said to reporters.

Rafizi literally walked out of the ministry for the last time on Thursday, clocking out just hours after Anwar publicly appealed for him to reconsider his decision to resign as Economy Minister.

Nik Nazmi is still on the clock since his last day as Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability will take effect on July 4, with him going on leave on May 29.

Shamsul stressed that Anwar has extended an invitation for dialogue and hopes both leaders will return to serve.

He believes there are no major issues and that any disagreements can be resolved through discussion with the prime minister.

“I believe in their wisdom to make a sound judgment and return to the discussion table. The Prime Minister has said there is no need for them to leave the Cabinet,” he added.

Earlier, it was reported that Anwar is still giving the two ministers time to reflect before making a final decision.
