“Malaysia mustn’t blindly support Iran which has committed numerous atrocities against Muslims”

AS Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim rallied on Malaysians to stand with Iran which he claimed “was the victim of a recent Israeli airstrikes”, a man-on-the-street Malaysian has disputed incessant moral support accorded to Tehran.

In a post on X, Fendi (@fendibeenliftin) painted a picture of many Middle-Eastern nationalities – including those who are currently residing in Malaysia – continuing to despise Iran despite the on-going pounding of the country by Israel.

Citing Iran’s Health Ministry, BBC reported that more than 220 people have been killed in Israeli strikes since the latest conflict erupted last Friday (June 13) while Israel claimed that Iranian attacks have killed 24 people.

“You’re bound to get a punch in the face if you tell a Syrian or Iraqi whom you come across in Bukit Bintang that you support Iran,” warned the self-proclaimed “economist and ‘steakholder’. “How foolish are the Malays who support Iran.”

Fendi went on to relate that many Syrians and Iraqis have been victims of pro-Iranian groups like Hezbollah and the Popular Mobilisation Force (which composed of about 67 primarily Iranian-backed Shia armed factions).

“Iran provides funding and supplies weapons to Shiite groups like this so that Shiite power is strong. And groups like this massacre and kill many Muslims.”

Elaborating further, the poster revealed that Iran has committed many more atrocities against Muslims.

“If your name is Umar or the name of the Companions of the Prophet, then these Shia groups will track you down to ensure that you’re dead,” he warned in a post that has surprisingly gone viral judging from the 848K views, 406 comments, 7.2K likes and 1.7K shares that it has garnered at the time of writing.

“Even after I’ve reasoned out why Iran is being hated, there are still Malays who are stubborn … Even people from Gaza say don’t support Iran. But when it comes to the Malays, they consider Iran a hero 😂“

Interestingly, the poster’s view was seconded by many of his Muslim brethren with one suggesting “not to go overboard with support but perhaps limit it to those of humanitarian nature”.

Another commenter pointed out that “the current Gulf War is complex and full of slander and false flags”.

The poster further chipped in to explain that many Sunni Iraqis in Malaysia have migrated out of their country “because of oppression done by the Syiah militants” after one netizen attested to the high sensitivity between Iraqis and Iranians.

Certainly not all would agree with the poster even if one commenter sought “Allah’s blessing for this courageous statement” but he has nevertheless use his knowledge of Middle Eastern affairs to great length to drive home a point which might just be as enlightening to many Malaysians. – June 19, 2025
