RECENTLY, an alarming video was seen making its rounds on the Internet. It showed a man walking his dog around a Muslim cemetery.
Living in multiracial Malaysia, we can already tell that this is wrong, considering the Muslim sensitivity towards dogs.
To make matters worse, the dog could be seen defecating on the ground. Perhaps it was a terrible foresight on the owner’s part?
However, captions in the video said the man had been walking his dog in the cemetery every week, suggesting that this was intentional.

According to the unverified source, the graveyard was located in Petaling Jaya, somewhere at SS14. No further information could be derived from the brief video or even from mainstream news portals.
On another note, it was quite common for graves to be desecrated. Even in 2023, several headstones were stolen from the Mukim Tebrau Muslim Cemetery at Taman Istimewa, Pandan.
To recap, eleven graves were vandalised for their tombstones, believed to be stolen for resale. Most of the stolen grave markers were river stone headstones that cost more than RM450 a set.
Then there was the Kemunting Muslim cemetery in Bintulu, where 50 graves were defaced with words in red and blue paints. The culprits had used paint to scribble profanities and other markings on the graves.
There were many other cases reported over the years, stemming from a wide range of reasons.
Apparently a cemetery on public land was not locked at the request of the public, especially the next-of-kin, to make it easier to visit, thus exposing it to intrusion.
If tighter control was enforced, it was likely that the man would not be able to walk his dog in the cemetery. —July 2, 2025
