PN dismisses HQ closure rumours, Azmin calls reports “baseless and irresponsible”

PN is scrambling to counter rumours that its headquarters are shutting down after reports emerged that its Solaris Dutamas office has been closed since March, denting the coalition’s public image.

PN secretary-general Azmin Ali clarified that the lease for the Solaris Dutamas premises expired in April and was not renewed.

“The lease was not renewed by mutual agreement between the owner and the tenant,” Azmin said in a statement last night.

On recent news reports about PN’s headquarters are shuttered, Azmin said these rumours were “baseless and irresponsible.”

Azmin confirmed that PN’s headquarters are currently operating from an “unofficial” temporary location while new premises are being prepared.

“Our headquarters are operating as usual with the help of officers and staffers at a temporary location pending a move to the new office,” he explained.

Reports yesterday quoted party sources claiming staffers had been laid off and left unpaid for months. PN deputy chairperson Hamzah Zainudin distanced himself from the controversy, saying he was unaware as Azmin had replaced him as secretary-general in December.

Meanwhile, Selangor PN secretary Dr Afif Bahardin also denied suggestions of an operational shutdown.

“We didn’t shut down (operations), but the (rental) contract has ended. We are in the middle of finding a new location to turn into an office. We are still operational, meetings are still taking place. There is no issue of a closure,” Afif said.

Despite assurances, the controversy highlights growing pressure on PN’s leadership to maintain credibility amid internal and financial challenges. —July 6, 2025
