“The individual gave a statement at the Cheras district police headquarters on August 9. A mobile phone and a SIM card were also seized to assist in the investigation,” it said in a statement on Sunday.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which carries a fine of up to RM500,000, two years’ imprisonment, or both.
MCMC urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information, which could distress the victim’s family and hinder justice.
“Unverified information not only risks hurting the feelings of the victim’s family but also goes against ethical values and can undermine the process of justice,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem on Zara’s remains began today after a forensic pathology specialist from Hospital Sultan Idris Shah, Serdang, arrived to work alongside local experts. Lawyer Hamid Ismail said the procedure, conducted by four doctors, aimed to ensure fairness and transparency.
Earlier, around 100 people, including family members and residents, gathered at the Tanjung Ubi Muslim Cemetery in Mesapol to witness the exhumation.
The process was carried out under police supervision and observed by Sabah’s Islamic Religious Affairs Department officials in accordance with Islamic rites. —Aug 3, 2025
