MIC president SA Vigneswaran announced that the party’s central working committee will meet soon to finalise its entry into PN as a formal member, following PN’s approval of the application last year.
“I will discuss the matter with the central working committee to join PN. We will meet very soon and announce the date,” he told reporters at an event in Bukit Kemuning today.
The discussion comes after delegates at MIC’s 79th general assembly passed a motion empowering leadership to explore leaving BN.
Last week, former PN chairperson Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin confirmed that PN’s top leadership approved MIC’s application to join the coalition as a component party last year.
He stated that PN is still waiting for MIC’s positive response to finalise its entry, noting that MIC’s intention to strengthen the opposition had been expressed earlier.
Meanwhile, BN leaders have downplayed the speculation, insisting MIC remains part of the coalition. BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had told both MCA and MIC to stop sulking and to remain in BN.
Also, BN secretary-general Zambry Abd Kadir said the coalition had received no official notification from MIC and insisted it remained part of BN. —Jan 25, 2025
