Azam Baki sues Bloomberg for defamation

THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki has filed a defamation suit against Bloomberg over an article he claims damaged his reputation.

The lawsuit, submitted through law firm Zain Megat & Murad at the Malaya High Court, names Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd as defendants.

Azam is seeking RM100mil in damages, alleging that Bloomberg’s report falsely linked him to ownership of millions of shares in a financial services company.

The civil action relates to the publication of an article allegedly containing defamatory content against Azam, according to the law firm.

“Through this suit, our client is seeking appropriate damages as well as a permanent injunction.

“Our client emphasises that all the allegations are unfounded and has initiated this legal process to defend his reputation,” the firm said in a statement.

His legal team previously issued a letter of demand to Bloomberg, asserting the allegations were baseless.

The suit also seeks a permanent injunction to prevent further publication of the claims.

Azam’s lawyers stressed that the judicial process must be respected as the matter proceeds in court. — Feb 21, 2026
